Everyone thinks the principal thing to the tree is the fruit,

but in point of fact the principal thing to it is the seed.

WOMEN, FAMILY AND SUMMER FUN

Celebrating Family Fun During Family Reunion Month

The summer sun is shining brightly upon us, and with this being Family Reunion Month, there is no better time than now to enjoy quality with your loved ones. Even if you can’t go on the vacation of your dreams this summer, you can still create memories that last a lifetime with an enjoyable Staycation. There are many things you and loved ones can do locally to create wonderful memories.

Make a list of activities you and your family like to do and add a twist to it. So, if you go to the same park all the time then during you Staycation visit a new park that offers a new feature. For example, the park you currently visit has an area for kids to play and walking trails, your new park also has those areas along with vintage airplane displays. Instead of going to your favorite theater to see a movie, host dinner with all the fixins and a movie in your backyard. If going to the beach is your thing, then go to a different beach and that offers something different you can do together like parasailing.

Most cities and towns hold free, or low-cost, concerts and festivals during the summer. Also, you can go on walking tours and explore local historic areas which can be both entertaining and educational. Taking this time to spend quality time with your loved ones can create cherished memories, strengthen family bonds, and help you rekindle a fondness for your hometown. So, embrace this opportunity and create some new traditions this month.

LEADERSHIP & BUSINESS

EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP OVER PERFECTION

Many leaders strive for perfection when we should be striving for excellence. As a leader you do not need to be perfect, because as everyone already knows no one is perfect. You also do not need to know everything, again, because no one knows everything. But you do have to be resourceful. As a leader this means you have to take an active approach to finding solutions like asking for help and bringing in subject matter experts when needed, which will build trust and collaboration within your team.

Personal development is a must as a leader, it is imperative for you to invest time in increasing your level of skills and knowledge. As you elevate yourself your team will be elevated too. Goal setting is another area that is important. Setting goals is an essential aspect of self-leadership. Clearly defined goals give you a path to run on.

Set goals that will move closer to your dreams. Then select the one, or ones, you would like to make public and share with your team. By setting and making your goal public you will be motivated to do something regularly that moves you closer to achieving your goals. Now because you’ve made the goal public, and give updates as you progress, your team members will be inspired to set their own goals and strive for their version of success.

Self-leadership is about embracing your imperfections as a person, committing to investing time in personal development, setting goals, achieving goals, being resilient, seeking help when needed, collaborating with others and leading by example. Making it wise for us, as leaders, to always remember that leading by example is one of the most powerful and effective forms of leadership there is.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

“The One Minute Millionaire” by Mark Victor Hansen and Robert G. Allen is our book for this month. This is one of my favorite books. I read this book for inspiration during challenging times and guidance when I am stuck in business.

“The One Minute Millionaire” is for both the fiction and nonfiction reader. The format is unique. The right pages, in the book, tell the fictional story of Michelle, a widow in a bitter custody struggle for her children with her in-laws that needs to earn a million dollars in 90 days. The left pages, in the book, give you the step-by-step guide to earning a million dollars that parallels with Michelle’s entrepreneurial journey.

We often see stories about entrepreneurs who achieved success and built million-dollar business on their own. However, in this book we are reminded that no one achieves success alone but by working with other people, Robert G. Allen gives us the Millionaire Equation:

A Dream + A Team + A Theme = Millionaire Streams

“The One Minute Millionaire” also shows that you can begin your millionaire journey with just three things:

1)A good idea

2)A Commitment to do it

3)A network of key contacts who have all the other resources you need

The best part is that these things don’t cost any money! So, if we have these three things, we can start our entrepreneurial journey where we are right now, with what we have and put in the work to achieve our goals and dreams.

In addition, Michelle also had a mentor, Sam, who was dedicated to helping her achieve success. Sam, as a mentor, gave Michelle advice which helped her overcome challenges, as well as expand her thinking. The authors of this book can serve as mentors to the readers as the lessons contained in its pages are invaluable to those who apply them along their journey to success.

And for those of us who achieved success in the past and for whatever reason (medical, financial or identity theft…) are starting over you’ll want to read the true story in the back of the book about, Robert G. Allen’s mentor, Le Van Vu. Le Van Vu’s journey from success to tragedy to success reinforces the principles taught in this book and serves as a real-life example of what is possible if you believe in yourself and are committed to achieving success.
